Built Like a Safe
Hurricane doors meet RC2 and PAS24 as standard — the same security classification specified for entrance doors in new-build housing developments. The lock is engineered to engage with the aluminium outerframe along the full height of the door, distributing force across the structure rather than the cylinder alone.
- RC2 & PAS24 certified as standard
- Multi-point lock — 2 hooks, 2 horizontal bolts, deadbolt & latch
- 4 hinge-side dogbolts fitted between sash and outerframe
- 64mm deep steel-skinned door sash, double-rebated for two compression seal lines
- Optional Tedee Pro smart cylinder — keyless entry via smartphone or smartwatch, mechanical key retained externally
"My installer said it was the easiest door he has fitted in 30 years. It feels more secure than a safe." — Hurricane Doors customer

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we get asked most about replacement doors across Greater Manchester.
What's the difference between composite, uPVC and aluminium doors?
Composite doors have a solid timber-and-GRP core with a hard-wearing outer skin, giving them the most substantial feel and the widest style range — ideal for front entrances. uPVC doors are the most affordable choice, thermally excellent and low-maintenance, popular for back doors and side entrances. Aluminium doors use thermally broken frames for slim sightlines, large glazed areas and a modern finish, used most often for bi-folds, sliding patios and contemporary front entrances.
How secure are your doors?
Every door in our range comes with multipoint locking as standard (5 points minimum), anti-snap, anti-drill and anti-pick euro cylinders, and reinforced steel strengtheners inside the frame. Composite and aluminium entrance doors can be specified to Secured by Design standards — the UK police-preferred security specification recognised by insurers. Hinge-side security bolts and upgraded hardware options are available on request.
Should I choose bi-fold, sliding patio or French doors?
Bi-fold doors fold back concertina-style to open almost the entire aperture — best for wide openings where full opening and a big patio connection is the priority. Sliding patio doors run on a track with slim sightlines, ideal where you want maximum glass and an uninterrupted view but don't need the full span to open. French doors suit narrower openings (around 1.5–2.4m) and give a classic outward-opening look, often paired with sidelights to balance a wider aperture.
Can I have a low or level threshold for accessibility?
Yes — composite, aluminium bi-fold and sliding patio doors can all be specified with low-threshold or level-access options, helpful for wheelchair, pram or mobility access and for seamless indoor/outdoor flow to a patio. Where a level threshold is used, weatherproofing is maintained by integrated drainage channels and upgraded weather seals. We'll discuss what's suitable for your specific threshold build-up at the survey.
What's the lead time on a new door?
From signed order, installation is typically 3–7 weeks, depending on the door type and specification. Expedited options may be possible on stock colours and standard sizes — ask at survey if you have a specific deadline.
How long does it take to install a door?
A single front or back door is usually fitted in half a day to a full day, depending on the existing frame and any brickwork made-good required. Bi-fold and sliding patio doors typically take one full day for a standard opening, extending to two days where structural lintels or widened openings are involved. Our team clears up on completion, leaves the door fully operational the same day, and returns for any plastering or decoration if required.
Are composite doors better than traditional wooden front doors?
For most modern UK homes, yes — composite doors outperform traditional timber on insulation, security, weatherproofing and maintenance, while delivering the same heritage aesthetics. The CompDoor slab we fit is built around a 48mm cross-laminated Albasia Falcata solid timber core wrapped in CoolSkin technology for thermal stability, with InvisiEdge seamless colour edges for up to 100% moisture resistance and the TriSeal weatherproof frame. The result is an industry-leading U-value of 1.4 W/m²K versus 2.5–3.0 W/m²K for solid hardwood. Composites do not warp in damp Manchester winters, do not need annual repainting or oiling, and accept the Avantis Autofire multi-point lock and ABS 3-Star Sold Secure Diamond cylinder as built-in features rather than retrofits. Solid hardwood doors remain the right call only on listed buildings or conservation-area front elevations where traditional materials are mandated. For everything else, composite is the modern equivalent — same heritage looks, dramatically better performance.
How much does a composite front door cost in 2026?
Composite front door costs in 2026 depend mainly on whether you have sidelights or a fan-light alongside the door. For Greater Manchester homes, supplied-and-fitted prices typically run: a standard single composite door with no sidelights £1,400–£2,500; a composite door with one sidelight or a fan-light over the door £2,000–£3,500. Variations within those ranges reflect glazing choice (clear, frosted, leaded or stained), hardware finishes (brushed nickel, satin chrome, antique brass), house numbers, letterplate design, and any bespoke RAL colour-matching. The structural slab itself — the timber-and-GRP composite core — is consistent across the price range; what varies is the trim. Final pricing is confirmed by the salesperson during their visit and signed into the contract. The composite door designer on our site lets you build your specification before booking the appointment, so you arrive at the conversation with a clear starting point.
How much do aluminium bi-fold doors cost in 2026?
Aluminium bi-fold door costs in 2026 are driven mainly by the number of panes and the overall opening width. For Greater Manchester homes, supplied-and-fitted prices typically run: 3-pane bi-folds at around 3m wide cost £2,500–£4,000; 4-pane at around 4m wide £3,200–£4,700; and 5-pane at around 5m wide £3,900–£5,400. Variations within those ranges reflect frame colour (stock anthracite or white versus bespoke RAL), glazing specification (standard A-rated double, A++-rated double or triple glazing), threshold type (standard or low-threshold for accessibility), and hardware finish. Wider apertures or non-standard panel splits sit above these ranges. Structural alterations — knocking through brick walls, installing steel lintels, or widening existing openings — are quoted separately based on builder's-work scope. Final pricing is confirmed by the salesperson during their visit, including any structural-work allowance, and signed into the contract.
How long does a composite door last before it needs replacing?
A well-specified composite door typically outlasts a uPVC door by a meaningful margin — both because the slab itself is more robust and because it's less prone to colour fade and warping over time. The CompDoor slab — a 48mm cross-laminated Albasia Falcata solid timber core finished with CoolSkin outer surface and InvisiEdge colour-matched edges — does not warp, swell, rot or peel under normal weather exposure, so visible degradation across the door's life is usually limited to the hardware (handles, hinges, letterplate), which can be swapped at any point without affecting the slab. Sealed glazing units inside the door follow the standard 5-year guarantee period; lock cylinders and weather seals are 2-year guaranteed. Our composite doors use the CompDoor system and carry a 10-year frame guarantee, with CERTASS Insurance-Backed Guarantee protection backing the installation workmanship for the same period. The ABS 3-Star anti-snap cylinder is also backed by a £2,000 homeowner guarantee from ABS in the event of a successful cylinder-snap break-in.
Should I choose a composite or an aluminium front door?
Composite doors are the right choice for most front entrances — they look traditional, perform well thermally (U-value around 1.2–1.4 W/m²K), and sit at a comfortable price point for the typical Greater Manchester home. Aluminium front doors are the premium upgrade. The Hurricane aluminium range we install combines a 64mm high-security steel slab with a 65mm aluminium outerframe, achieving Passive House-grade thermal performance (U-value of 0.77 W/m²K on solid designs, 0.88 W/m²K on glazed), RC2 and PAS24 security as standard, and bespoke sizes up to 1208mm wide by 2476mm high — well beyond what a composite slab can be manufactured at. They suit contemporary new-builds, large or unusually-proportioned openings, premium renovations, and homeowners who want the cleanest modern lines combined with thermally superior performance. The K-series collection offers 25+ contemporary designs in 18 Renolit Solar Shield finishes, with optional Tedee Pro smart electronic cylinder for keyless entry.
